Jennifer Snyder is the founder of MathematiCUSE. She is experienced in both teaching math in the classroom and tutoring privately. She holds a New York State teaching certification in secondary mathematics. She graduated summa cum laude from Syracuse University with a B.S. in Mathematics and holds a Master's degree in Math Education from New York University. After graduating from SU, she was accepted into Math for America, a very competitive teaching fellowship program that aims to improve mathematics education in cities across the US. Through this program, she was given the opportunity to teach middle school math in New York City. After her time in the Big Apple, she returned to central New York, where she continued working with math students by tutoring privately.

Jennifer opened MathematiCUSE in 2018 because she wanted to create a community where people can come together to learn and do math. She has always been a "math geek" and has enjoyed being a part of a math community, both as a student and teacher. From SU's mathematics department to Math for America's cohort of exceptional teachers, a strong math community has played an important role in her education and career. She wanted to bring this type of community to the public, a place where people enjoy coming to do math in a supportive environment. She hopes to increase students' confidence in math and allow them to enjoy it outside of the traditional classroom experience.

Testimonials:

“Before I started tutoring with Jennifer, I was frustrated at my lack of progress with passing my final certification test. I have always struggled with math but Jennifer set me up for success by helping me identify my areas of strength and need. She always made time to meet up and targeted a different skill set every session. In just about two months, she improved my skills and overall mathematical confidence. Jennifer genuinely cares about her students and it’s thanks to her that I not only passed my certification tests but improved my score by almost forty points!” -Hannah W

"Thank you very much for working with Parker over the last school year. He was struggling in geometry. He was rushing through problems and making mistakes. You worked with him weekly and was thorough with making sure he understood the concept. Parker would have never done as well as he did on his regents with a 96 if it wasn't for your tutoring. You have a wonderful disposition and do not get frustrated when he didn't get it right. You listened to him and what he was thinking and helped him think through the problem on his own. I cannot stress enough how great you are and we will be back another year for trigonometry and algebra for my other son." - Nicole T.

"Jennifer has been a life saver for my son, whom she tutors for middle school math. Jeffrey is dyslexic, and she makes every accommodation to work with his individual needs and learning style. She is very talented, and has a very effective style and warm personality. Jeffrey describes "Jen works slow enough for me, we can work on anything I need help in, and she's easy for me to understand". - Joan H.

"Just wanted to thank you for a very good introduction to middle school this past year. Emma's attitude towards math has changed dramatically. She'd always been able to grasp the subject fairly quickly and clearly but because of you I know she's grown to really enjoy math work much more so than in the past. On numerous occasions she'd tell me that she liked learning math now and mainly because of you. Often telling me that "She's a good teacher". I hope all her experiences in MS 104 will be as successful and gratifying as it was having you as her teacher."

EJ Holm recently graduated from Bates College in Lewiston, Maine with a B.S. in Environmental Studies and a minor in Mathematics. At Bates, EJ worked for 3 years as a mathematics and science tutor at the college’s Student Academic Support Center, supporting several different STEM courses via private appointments and drop-in group tutoring sessions. Furthermore, she also served as a course-attached tutor (CAT) for several introductory-level college math courses, ran algebra and trigonometry review sessions, and scripted and narrated a video on study skills that was shown to entering students. Academically, EJ is passionate about exploring the many applications of mathematical concepts to ecological issues. She has completed a senior thesis on mathematically modeling algal blooms in New Hampshire, and participated in research on the applications of machine learning and topology for tracking tree population changes in Panama.
